Michael Kanyon is a well-respected editorial hair stylist that has been passionate about hair ever since his father gave him his first buzzer. Combined with a passion for geometry, Michael fell in love with hair cutting and had kids in the neighborhood lined up for his services.
Years later at 22-years-old, Michael’s first paying job was unlike any other. Under the direction of Victor Skrebneski in New York City, he was asked to change the model’s hairstyle nine times. Upon the ninth request, he walked out and the entire crew began to clap. It was Skrebneski’s way of testing him under pressure and he passed surrounded by greats Gilles Bensimon , Patrick Demarchelier, Walter Chin, Franchesco Scavullo, Russell James and more.
Since then, Michael has worked for magazines inclduing Vogue, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Italian Vogue. Some of his advertising campaigns consist of Ray Ban, Samsonite, and Vanderbilt Jeans. Michael has also worked with many celebrities including Ashley Judd, Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, One Republic, and Alicia Keys.
Michael is known best for his dry hair cutting method that was taught to him by his personal mentor John Sahag. This select method is only known by a small number of dry haircutting specialists throughout the United States which makes Kanyon both a trendsetter and a highly sought-after artist.
